Welcome from the Principal
A welcome message from the Principal, Ms Ryder:
Welcome to Woodside Academy!
At Woodside Academy, we believe that education is about far more than just academics - it’s about nurturing well-rounded, confident, and emotionally literate children who are ready to take on the world.
The arts and sport play a vital role in our school, sparking creativity, building confidence, and helping children express themselves. Whether through sport, music, drama, or visual arts, our highly professional and caring staff ensure every child has the opportunity to shine. Alongside this, we are deeply committed to supporting children’s social-emotional and mental health, creating a warm and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and heard.
Our curriculum extends far beyond the classroom. We make full use of our local area, helping children connect with the history and community around them. We also take learning further afield, with trips to London, theatre visits, and residential stays filled with outdoor and adventure activities. Through these experiences, children develop independence, resilience, and a lifelong love for the world around them.
As a Forest School, we embrace outdoor learning, encouraging children to explore, take risks, and develop a deep respect for nature. We believe that understanding and caring for where you live is just as important as knowing its history, and we instil this sense of responsibility in all our pupils.
The children of Woodside Academy are amongst the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. They are friendly, funny, and confident, and they celebrate diversity and differences. Their kindness and respect for one another make our school a truly special place to learn and grow.
At Woodside, we work closely with other independent academies to ensure we are always providing the best opportunities for our children. Our goal is simple: to offer an outstanding education that nurtures curiosity, resilience, and a love of learning—preparing our children not just for school, but for life.
On a personal note, I was born and bred in Thurrock. I went to school with many of the grandparents of the children at Woodside, have taught many of their children, and now have the privilege of working with their grandchildren.
Having attended Thurrock schools myself and lived here all my life, I can truly say there is no bigger advocate for Thurrock, its families, and its children than me.
I am incredibly proud to lead Woodside Academy and to continue shaping the future of our wonderful community.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school!
