PSHE & Citizenship

Personal Social and Health Education and Citizenship is taught directly in specific lessons and within other subjects as well as through example. In the case of healthy eating we teach children about nutrition in science, and in PSHE we look in depth at this with a topic on food in year 3. We run a healthy tuck shop, our school meals have the Gold level Food for Life award and children get the chance to grow food, cook it and eat it. Our PSHE subject leader is Mrs Maguire. Our elected school council helps to teach children about democracy as well as fund-raising and representing the school at events such as Remembrance Day and Holocaust Memorial Day.

Intent

Our intention is that, when children leave Woodside Academy, they do so with the knowledge, understanding and emotions to be able to play an active role in today’s society. We want our children to have high aspirations, a belief in themselves and realise that anything is possible if they put their mind to it. Building resilience is our main aim working alongside the Thurrock Wellbeing Services, we are installing this important life skill in all children
