Remembrance

A hundred years after the terrible battle of the Somme the whole school held a two minute silence at the same time as the school council were laying a poppy wreath at Grays War Memorial in a short ceremony attended by the British Legion and leading councillors. The wreath had the message "From the children and staff of Woodside Academy for those who gave their today for our tomorrow." We teach children about both world wars as part of the history curriculum for year 6.  The school council sold poppies and wrist bands raising a record £517 for the British Legion Poppy Appeal; the second highest amount for an school in Thurrock.
