Modeshift Stars GOLD award Your Thurrock

This is Your Thurrock's report on our latest GOLD award

PRIMARY schools in Thurrock have been recognised for their efforts in encouraging more parents to leave the car at home and do the school run to and from school in other ways.

Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Cathy Kent, presented the awards to those schools who have achieved bronze, silver and gold in the Modeshift STARS scheme.

The initiative is a National Schools Awards scheme, established to recognise schools who have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel.

Plans, in partnership with pupils, teachers, parents, carers, school governors and local residents, are developed by Thurrock schools and demonstrate the school's commitment to the environment and community concerns around the safety and welfare of all school visitors.

Speaking after the presentation, Cllr Kent said: “I want to congratulate the hard work schools have put into achieving these levels. As someone who did the school run for many years, it’s clear to me that we all need to look at more sustainable ways of getting our children to school.

“I particularly want to congratulate Woodside Academy for achieving the Gold level – a remarkable achievement of which you should all feel proud.”
