Eid al-Fitr

Happy Eid to all our Muslim families and friends. Eid al-Fitr is a Muslim festival celebrating the end of fasting at Ramadan every year. As Islam uses the lunar calendar the date changes each year and varies across the world, depending on when local religious authorities can see the new crescent moon emerging. Rather than starting at midnight the day of the festival also lasts from sunset one day to sunset the next. Eid al-Fitr is often referred to as just Eid but this just means festival and there is another Eid later in the year, Eid al-Adha - the festival of the sacrifice, commemorating the story of Abraham and Isaac which is even more important.
