Every summer we use a painting from the National Gallery in London as a starting point for activities during our Art Week. The year we chose "A Shipwreck in Stormy Seas" by Claude-Joseph Vernet. This is a very powerful painting which was highly valued in the artist's own lifetime and bought by the famous "Clive of India". It was painted in 1773 for the King of Poland, but when the king was slow to pay Vernet sold the painting to Clive, who had made a fortune in India. Art Week will be from 27th June to 1st July.
