Awards

Woodside Academy is an award-winning school where we use awards to drive school improvement and to celebrate the achievements of our pupils and staff. Current awards include:

Sainsbury's School Games Award PLATINUM

We were the first school in Thurrock to win the Sainsbury's Games Mark at Platinum level, after winning gold four times, for the sheer range and quality of the teaching and activities we provide..

Basic Skills Quality Mark

This award underlies our commitment to ensure every child has the skills they need to succeed in life. We have won this award and had it re-accredited many times.

Modeshift Starts

We are the only Thurrock school with gold level in this national award scheme for sustainable travel. Achieving this level has enable us to access council funding and support for our cycle and scooter storage and contributed to the King Edward Drive crossing. We continual to work on sustainable travel and re-accreditation with the scheme.

International School Award

We work with the British Council to reach out to schools overseas. We sent two of our teachers to a school in Ghana and hosted their headteacher here, we published a book written by our pupils and illustrated by children in other countries. We prepare our children for a global society by teaching them Spanish and Mandarin and teacher our children to play Steel Pan and Gamelan.

Artsmark Gold

We were awarded Artsmark gold for the three times in succession. As an Artsmark school we with work with the Royal Opera House base in Thurrock to provide our children with a range of exciting cultural opportunities.

Primary Science Quality Mark

We originally won gold level and more recently "Gilt" level in this award which recognizes the range and quality of our science teaching.

Investors in People

We have won this industry standard award four times and have used it as a health check on the training and support we provide our staff so that they can provide the very best education for our children. In 2018 we decided not to be reviewed as the rising cost, which accompanied the increased size of the school was not considered the best use of our resources.

Sustrans Gold Award

This is a reward promoting and celebrating sustainable travel - especially cycling. We encourage children and adults to cycle to school and we run training sessions and weekly bike rides. We even cycle when possible on school trips and walk to anything that is close enough.

Sing-Up Silver Award

This award celebrates the fact that we are a singing school and children and staff regularly sing together in assemblies and in class. We still subscribe to Sing-Up for resources but they no longer run and award scheme. Instead we now have the Music Mark.

Diversity Award Gold

This award recognizes the work we do to celebrate cultural diversity and ensure equality for all our children and staff. Our principal was recently given a lifetime award for work on diversity.

Green Flag Eco Award

We have now been awarded our second green flag for our extensive environmental work!

Ofsted Good Provider

We are also entitled to display the Ofsted Good Provider badge as are all schools whose most recent inspection was good. However, we have had only good or good with outstanding features in our Ofsted inspections in the last 20 years.
