Woodside goes to Thameside
Woodside Academy's own Shakespeare Festival at Thameside Theatre
For the last seven years we have been taking our year 5 children or drama club to the Shakespeare Schools Festival at the Thameside Theatre. This is a national festival with primary, secondary and college pupils performing cut-down versions of Shakespeare plays in local Theatres all over the country. We have shared the stage with Palmers College, Gable Hall and, more recently, Little Thurrock; but this year we have decided to book the theatre just for ourselves and hold our own festival. The main reason for this is that we can then include all three classes and every child in year 5. Another advantage is that we can allow you to take photographs (provided these do not disrupt the performance) rather than sell rehearsal photographs as Shakespeare Schools Festival did.
The festival will take place on Thursday 21st March. We will be taking the children down in the afternoon and they will need a packed tea as they will be staying at the theatre for the performance at 6.00 pm. The theatre bar will be open before the performance and during the interval. The plays will be Macbeth by 5C, Romeo and Juliet by 5T and A Midsummer Night's Dream by 5T. We expect the show to finish around 8.00 pm and all children will need to stay to the end of the performance.
Tickets will be £6 each for any age and these will be available online via parentmail from 12 noon Monday 25th February. We are not restricting tickets as we think the theatre should be big enough for all parents and family members who want to come but we recommend booking early. We will not, on this occasion, be running a creche . Children will be previewing the plays to the rest of the school but this will be the only public performance.
Please support your child in this very special opportunity to perform the work of the world's most famous playwright in a professional theatre.
