Woodside Wins The Big Pedal 2018
Thank you for your amazing support for the Big Pedal. A record number of children came to school on 2 wheels not 4, and under their own power, to help us win first place in Thurrock, first place in Essex, 2nd place in south East England and 5th in the whole UK. The school achieved an average 79% participation over the fortnight and 90% on the final day, making a huge dent in local traffic emissions and congestion, and inspiring children and adults to get healthy on 2 wheels. During the Big Pedal fortnight children who came to school on bikes and scooters were able to take part in special activities including year group rides to the playground at Blackshots. The winning classes in KS2 and KS1 were 6G and 2B who win special bike trips to the Olympic cycle venues at Hadleigh and Stratford Velodrome with individual prizes including all round bicycle wheel lights and Lakeside vouchers. Mr Doye said:
“Fantastic achievement from all the children for 2018 Big Pedal, and to all the amazing staff who have participated in identifying cycling as not only a source of independence for children but of huge importance for our environment”.
Thank you everyone.
