We took some of our singers and instrumentalists to Convent Garden in London to see and hear Puccini's opera Madama Butterfly at The Royal Opera House. This was a very special event for our children as ROH tickets normally cost anything up to £175. The children enjoyed a really splendid performance from world class singers with a full orchestra and were a credit to the school. We deliberately included our violin players as they were 30 violinists in the orchestras plus another 30 violas, cellos and basses . The opera was set in Japan and sung in Italian but children were able to read the surtitles and most of all, enjoy the music. We travelled by train and tube which was more sustainable than a coach as well as being quicker and much more fun. The sets and scenery were made in the ROH workshops in Thurrock which is one of the reasons we have been able to join the ROH arts partnership and give children outstanding cultural experiences. Last year we took a group to Il Trittico, also by Puccini.
