Woodside hosted the The Holocaust Remembered at Thameside Theatre on Friday 27th January to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, the anniversary of the day the Soviet army discovered Auschwitz concentration camp where many of the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust were killed. Year 6 children presented readings and our KS2 choir sang. Guest speaker Nic Winton gave an inspirational talk about his father Sir Nicholas Winton, the "British Schindler" who organized the Kinder Transport, saving 669 Jewish children from the Nazis. Our own Mark Carter also talked about his own family who were victims of the Holocaust in Holland. Corringham, and Stifford Clays schools also read extracts and Gable Hall presented a short drama. Our school council also represented us at Thurrock Council's Memorial Service in the morning.
