Mathematics is taught as a daily lesson but we are increasingly expecting children to use mathematics in other learning. Mathematics at Woodside is coordinated by Mrs Edwards with support from Miss Roberts and Mrs Conroy. Mathematics is taught largely according to the National Curriculum as this is what children will be tested against. We have now introduced Singapore mathematics to classes from reception to year 3 using the Inspire scheme and this will be extended through the school year by year. We now set for most mathematics lessons in KS2 although work is based on national expectations for that year group for all children. There is now a renewed emphasis on children having fast recall of their tables but the most important aspect remains children's understanding of mathematics and their ability to put their knowledge and skills into practice to solve real problems. We encourage parents to engage their children with real maths when shopping, cooking or decorating as well as making use of our online resources at MyMaths and Times Tables Rock Stars.
