We are a Bike It school and have won the Sustrans Gold Award for our work in encouraging cycling and sustainable transport. We run two weekly bike clubs for children from February to October. Every Tuesday morning we take children on a short ride, mostly on nearby off-road tracks, coming back to school in time for breakfast a free Bike-It breakfast of a toasted wholemeal muffin and fruit smoothie. On Thursday afternoons we have taken children on longer rides to destinations such as Davey Down, Chafford Gorge and Orsett village. Mr Doye is our Bike-It champion and coordinates our cycling activities.
We encourage children and adults to cycle to school every day and always take part in the Sustrans Big Pedal. The junior and infant class that make the most cycle journeys win a prize which this year was a trip to the Olympic Velodrome. During our Science week all our classes visited Chafford Gorge and many of the junior children cycled there and back.
